The GKinetic prototype device in the Limerick Docks in Limerick, Ireland
GKinetic Energy have just been granted Chinese patent protection for a key knowledge item of the tidal technology, the ‘Blade Pitch Control System.’ This marks a major step in validating the technology for the Asian market. This is the company’s third successful patent with protection already granted in both Europe and Australia, further expanding GKinetic’s patent portfolio.
The Technology
The GKinetic technology concept involves two vertical axis turbines positioned on either side of a tear-drop shaped vessel, the ‘bluff body’. The Blade Pitch Control System coupled with the bluff body, speeds up the natural flow of water to achieve higher power outputs.
Current Projects
GKinetic are currently involved in a number of projects developing the technology closer to market in a scaled and collaborative approach. The company’s strategic partner, DesignPro Renewables deployed a 25kW device at SEENEOH which is undergoing environmental and operational testing and are currently in the build phase for a larger 60kW machine. GKinetic are also working with a consortium of partners to make Limerick, Ireland and Trondheim, Norway EU smart cities for the Horizon 2020 funded +CityxChange project.
